Toilet Paper Roll Planters
One thing I’m not afraid to admit is I’m cheap!! I like to use everything even if its the paper roll from the toilet paper! If I can use it for something else I will!!
One of the uses is for the seed starters for the garden. This is a project the kids can help with!
Start off by keeping all the empty rolls, its kinds sad now I check the garbage every time I go pee! By now the kids know to keep them but you never know when you have company!! (don’t forget about the paper towel rolls you can get 4 starter sleeves out of it!)
Cut the rolls in half, place in a container I use a tin container that I can reuse for next year!
Fill with damp dirt. This is where the kids help came in. If the dirt is dry you’ll want to add water and keep filling the rolls up with dirt as it sinks down! You want the rolls almost full when you plant the seeds.
Plant your seeds and spray with water. I use a spray bottle so the seeds don’t get washed away or you’ll have plants growing in between the rolls.
Kick start the germination process by placing the tray in a plastic bag WITH holes poked in the top. I use a bun bag and close with a paperclip like the picture below! When the plants are starting to grow you will want to open the bag for a few days then remove the bag completely. Remember to turn the tray everyday when the plants are growing to strengthen the stems as they reach for the sun!
Transplanting the plants into the garden. No need to remove the roll as it will break down in the dirt. just put the whole thing in the ground! I like to keep the bottom of the roll open so the roots can grow down faster and don’t need to fight their way through the paper rolls.
Have Fun and Happy gardening!
